Example: 10 people into 3 teams
Ten cannot be divided equally by three. The generator therefore calculates capacities of 4–3–3, shuffles the roster, and fills those capacities. No participant is dropped and the size difference is one.
Choosing “people per team” works from the other direction. A target of four still creates three teams for ten people, with the final distribution shown before you generate.
Equal headcount does not claim equal experience, ability, influence, or outcome.

Random, even-sized, constrained, and balanced are different
A random draw changes the order of every participant before assignment. Even-sized means only that team sizes differ by no more than one when the roster cannot divide evenly.
A constrained draw also follows rules that you provide, such as keeping two people apart. A balanced draw would need ratings or role data and a published optimization goal; this tool does not quietly infer either.

Use constraints without hiding impossible cases
Keep-together rules form a block; keep-apart rules prevent a pair from sharing a team; fixed leaders are placed on separate teams. The validator checks obvious conflicts before the draw and the solver verifies every rule afterward.
If five people must stay together but each team has room for four, the generator explains the conflict instead of returning a result that silently breaks the rule. A solver-limit message is also kept distinct from a proof that no solution exists.

A draw you can inspect and repeat
Each result includes a seed, draw identifier, and engine version. With the same ordered roster, settings, rules, seed, and engine version, the generator produces the same allocation again.
The seed does not contain the roster. Copy, CSV, and print exports are created on demand so you can move the result to the place where it is actually needed.

Questions about the draw
How are uneven team sizes handled?
Capacities are calculated before assignment so the largest and smallest teams differ by at most one. Ten people in three teams become 4–3–3.
Is the result truly random?
The initial seed comes from the browser’s cryptographic randomness and drives a versioned deterministic shuffle. The published method describes the exact guarantee; constraints narrow the set of possible results.
Are names uploaded or saved?
Names are not uploaded or automatically saved. Reloading or closing the page clears the current list. Copy or export your result before leaving.
Can I keep two people together or apart?
Yes. Add an optional together or apart rule. The generator either respects every selected rule or explains why it cannot return the requested teams.
What is the difference between random and balanced?
Random changes assignment order; balanced requires explicit scores or roles and an optimization target. Similar team sizes do not prove similar skill or fairness.
Can I reproduce a previous draw?
Yes, when you keep the ordered roster, settings, rules, seed, and engine version. The seed alone is not enough and never embeds the names.
Can I use international names?
Yes. Accents, non-Latin scripts, emoji, and compound names are treated as text. Duplicate detection does not silently rewrite the displayed name.
How do I print or export teams?
Use Copy all for chat or documents, Download CSV for a spreadsheet-safe file, or Print for a clean paper or PDF layout.
